  1. Hi,
started ripping dvd first time last week, managed to burn some goodlooking svcd,s using smartripper, dvd2avi and tmpegenc.
Now i would like to go further and add chapters using chapterx and vcdeasy. I think i did well but the resulting file is more than 10% larger
so it won,t fit on my 80min cdr. Is this normal or am i missing something?
    I use nero for burning.
    Thanx

    It is normal.

My most recent SVCD's .mpg is 759MB, while the resulting .bin/.cue from VCDEasy came out at 770MB, which includes a menu and the info for 7 chapters.

A way to check before attempting to burn, is to take the exact size in bytes of the .bin and divide it by 2352 (the Mode-2 block size). Most 80Min CD-R's have about 360,000 blocks for writing, so your division should come out to less that 360,000 for it to fit. Even if a burning app tells you it won't fit, it will.

You could even do the division on the actual .mpg file before wasting time creating the bin/cue. Allow yourself a little bit of cushion (about 5,000 blocks; the math should work out to less than 355,000 blocks) for the required files for an (S)VCD and you'll know beforehand.

  3. Thanks for your response, but in my case the difference is >100mb
I want to make my mpeg with as high as possible bitrate and split in in two. when i chapter the files (<800mb) they come out >900mb!
I must be doing something wrong here, but what ?
    Thanks for your help!

  4. When using TMPGenc to split the file, make sure you have it set to mpeg-1 video cd or mpeg-2 super video cd and not the system automatic setting.
I had this same problem, but after re-splitting the file with the proper settings and using VCDeasy to create chapters the .bin was only 10mb larger.

    Hope that helped.

found out that i did make a mistake, but don,t know what?!
I studied the guidelines on this site again and followed them exactly, and this time it worked out fine !
    Thanks again
