  1. Hi, dear all.

Do you know how to create such subtitle like the picture below?

I want to create subtitles similar on the picture: one black bar ( like a kind of background or frame behind the subtitle ) that "contrast" with the subtitle itself.

Its that possible to do it?

In such cases, which program can do that ( freeware if its possible or available )?

And in such cases the subtitle must be hard-coded ( embedded ) on the video or I can do it "soft coded", like a simple SRT or ASS / SSA subtitle formats?

    Thanks for the tips.

    Best regards.

  2. You can use ass/ssa with an Opaque box (Aegisub /Subtitle Edit)

  3. @ videobruger

Hi. Thanks for you advice! I could find some material using Aegisub and Subtitle Edit.

In your example we use "soft coded" subtitles, ASS/ SSA subtitle format. But, if I want to "hard-code" them onto the video, how to proceed?

I mean, to embed the subtitles onto the video, just like the previous image that I showed before.

I want the subtitle hard-coded with opaque box, color, font and the same position on the screen as I create the ASS/ SSA subtitle format. Is that possible?

To do that do I need some program to encode the video again, to embed the subtitle onto the video? Which program can do that? Freeware, if its possible.

PS: encode / embed the videos's subtitles in AVI, MP4, MKV and VOB files formats.

    Thanks again for your helping.

    Best regards.

  4. Do you realize there's a difference between hardcoding and embedding? Embedding might be thought of as being like the selectable subtitles of a DVD. You can turn them on and off. No reencoding is required to add selectable subtitles to a DVD. You can embed subs into other video formats as well.

Hardcoding makes the sub a part of the video and always requires a reencode. Back when I sometimes hardcoded subtitles, I used the VSFilter or the TextSub filter in an AviSynth script. VDub can do the same.

Once you've created an ASS or SSA sub with the black box, you then embed those subs into whatever you like and the styles should be retained. Or you can hardcode or 'burn' them into a video by reencoding.

  5. To hardcode the .ass subtitles:

Mux the subtitle with the video using MKVToolnix.

In HandBrake (/Vidcoder) select the ass
