  1. I Just downloaded my first movie, but I do not know how to play it. The file looks like this - ffbowcd1.r16
I have 40 of these files, do I have to convert them? Thanks for the help.

You most likely have downloaded a so-called RAR file. WINRAR is the program you need which you can download at http://www.download.com will check the 40 parts (the end number is usally the part no. of the file i.e. in your case part 16) and fuse them back together again.

Winrar is merely a compression tool - you might know winzip also a compression tool. What zip files are for winzip rar files are for winrar. Once you have un-rared (unzipped) the files you downloaded you should get one big file. It might be a avi or mpeg. Then you have to work from there.

  5. Hey Aldus4 thanks a lot for the help. Not I have two files, cd1.bin & cd1.cue
What do I do next? Thanks Again.

  6. Lol. You must have downloaded a ready-made VCD.

You must use a CDRWIN to burn it to disc. Go to the same download.com to get it.

OK you have unzipped the files and received 2 new files called bin and cue. The bin file is an image file. The cue file is more or less the index file for the accompaning bin file. Which burning software do you have? Normally you would burn this to a CD-R(W) and the you would have a VCD or SVCD etc. You can however if you want to see the clip before you burn it, download some software to (lets call it) un-bin the bin file. If you go to the tools section of this website you can find CDMage which can extract the files you would want. You could also use some other software, but I think you'll find CDMage more managable.

If you select the cue it should direct you to the bin - or you can choose the bin directly.

OK - in CDMage you saw a file structure. If this was a VCD you should have seen a directoy called MPEGAV. In this directory you will find 1 or various dat files. These dat files are encoded mpeg1 formated files. You now need to download VCDGear (also in the tool section of this website) to convert the dat file into an mpeg1 file. This should then be playable in your WIndows Media Player.

Well I have VCDGear 2.0 which comes with a GUI. Try downloading that version if your version doesn't work. Choose dat-->mpeg. Click on the load button (here you choose the dat file) and then a "save as" window will appear - name it - and you're off...

  14. Ok, man I really appreciate your help. I got the VCDGear 2.0 and that works. When I try to load the BIN file I get an error. Do I have to save or extract the dat with CDMAGE first?

...I thought you had. Yes, use CDMage to extract the dat file. Then use VCDGear to convert the dat to mpeg1.

OK use the VCD template load the mpeg1 file and burn - if you want to add a menu you can of course.

Have to dash off now - good luck

  21. No offense, but if you would have listened to me when I said to burn the bin/cue with CDRWIN you could have saved so much time and bother because it's obvious that you downloaded a ready-made VCD that only needed to be burned.
