Nero 12 cant burn

I am trying to use Nero 12 but it "Burn process failed at 2x"
The files in the Video_TS folder are

VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0

and 5 VTS files

I looked at the log but can't decipher why it won't complete. Total size is 4.35GB so its within dvd-r size.

Unless that's a typo, doesn't make any sense. You can't have a VIDEO_TS folder inside a VIDEO_TS folder, AFAIK.
The proper contents of a VIDEO_TS folder are:


VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB

And the name 'VIDEO_TS' folder must be capitalized.

But I agree Nero is probably just massive bloatware and unnecessary just for burning.
Imgburn does a better job if you just need to burn a DVD file.

With either program you can post the log and that should show where the failure was.

Fortunately nero isn't available for linux, which is what I almost always use now.

Maybe their stuff was better at one time but I'd never let one of their products near my one remaining windows 7 partition. They just don't work properly and then they won't uninstall without surgery to the registry. Rubbish. Yuck.

Wow, are you using that low speed for burning (2x). I'm using 8x, and it turns out well most of the time. But I can understand that, to use low speed for better quality. I never use 16x myself, because at that speed I've seen that it is higher risk for burns that have minor defects. I only use Verbatim discs, because I believe that these have highest quality. What kind of discs are you using? And are you using Nero Express or the ordinary Nero?

I've been using nero for years, and think it's a great burner, encoder and editor. The only thing which I've had BAD experience with is their SmartEncoder. This should be DEACTIVATED all the time. Because it make the films jerky (lag). But then it will work just fine.
The sad thing is that they have set the SmartEncoder on by default, so the users have to deactivate it. It should be the other way around.
I tested Imgburn now, since there are so many mentioning it, I tried burning to a DVD-RW which had data from a previous burn. And it went very well. Imgburn asked if I wanted to delete it, and started burning the files. One thing I can agree on, is that it is a lighter program which doesn't take so many resources from the PC.

...actually, there IS a version of Nero for Linux. Or rather, was, since they've discontinued it. But it looks like you can still download it.

I've never tried it, but I've heard some people say it's decent, now and then, in comparison to some of the other CD-burning programs for Linux.
