Hi,
I'm using streamer S1-Duo with HDTV tuner. Also, I have Panasonc 50X20 TV.
While I'm playing movies via the streamer, the movie can be shown on the whole TV screeen (16:9)
While I'm watching HDTV via the streamer, the TV is 4:3 (I know that the HDTV broadcasts are 4:3).
Is it possible to watch both HDTV and movies on 16:9 format without configure the settings every time I switch from HDTV into movies mode? Is there an auto mode in the streamer and/or Panasonic TV?
Regards,
Uriel

not sure what the question is. if the hdtv signal is 4:3 like you say then it should be watched in 4:3 like the tv is doing.

Hi,
I would like that both HDTV and movies will be shown in full screen, means 16:9. Is that possible?

not real 16/9 if the hdtv signal is 4:3. just press the picture size button on the tv remote and it can stretch anything to 16/9. your eyes your call.

Unlike what you said, most HD broadcasts are 16:9.
Some broadcasters may be repurposing SD material, in which case they may be upsizing to a larger 4:3 and pillarboxing it to pad it out to the 16:9. In which case, it IS a 16:9 signal, just that part of the signal is BLACK (some broadcasters like to use colors or network bugs/ads in the pillarboxing/letterboxing though).
AFAIK, resizing is NOT done automatically. Most sets have these choices:
1. Size according to content (aka 16:9 appears as 16:9, 4:3 appears as 4:3)
2. ZOOM (both height and width are expanded)
3. STRETCH (height remains as-is, width is expanded)
Some sets have additional options, like VARIABLE STRETCH (center portion isn't stretched, edge portion is greatly stretched), or maybe SHRINK, or manually-adjustable STRETCH.

even if it is possible to stretch 4:3 to 16/9 automatically it would look like crap. everything too short and too fat.

I have a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV and it has at least 4 choices ... for resizing the picture and does a very good job ... before in the past ... I was getting the SY FY channel in ... not HD ... and the shows were letter box ... and the Panasonic could resize it perfectly to fit the screen.
But the other 3 HDTVs in my home are Sony HDTVs ... and they are very lousy as to what choices I have for resizing the screen.
Since I have a Nvidia 9500GT with HDTV output ... I have no problem resizing the screen to fit my 32" SONY HDTV but ... I'd be pissed if I was trying to use it a year ago as my regular TV ... as like in my bedroom ... the living room HDTV is a Sony 50" Projection HDTV and it is the pits ... trying to get a decent picture without the people looking like coneheads or piefaces ... I dont even like to use for watching regular TV Shows ... if it is DVD Video ... all is well.Last edited by lacywest; 8th Oct 2012 at 03:51. Reason: typo
