  1. I have changed the setting to Type1 and have the playback in preview box with both audio and video (VOB2MPG V3 free edition).

when I click on Start Extraction it generates a single mpeg file in 7 minutes though I am not abe to play it. It stays in the first image not streaming the video...

    Can you play the vob?
What do you play with? Try VLC Media PLayer.

If it fails then open the mpg with mediainfo and change to view->text and copy all the info and post here.

  3. Thanks for your reply.

yes, I can play the original vob from my dvd using Windows Media Player though cannot play the converted mpeg file with WMP.

As in your advice I can now play the converted mpeg with VLC media player!

But I need the mpg in Windows Movie maker to cut some pieces and create a new shorter version of it. Windows Movie Maker says: it is not valid because it does not contain any information!

Are you running VOB2MPEG from the DVD Drive?
    Is the DVD copy protected?

  5. Thanks.

I have installed VOB2MPG on my PC. when I run it, I have tried both choosing my DVD drive as the DVD Folder Location and also a Hard drive location where I have copied the DVD to. So it means that the DVD is not copy protected (because I am able to play the video from the Hard drive too).

In both cases the created mpg file cannot be played in WMP.

If you bought the DVD at a store....there is a 95% chance that it is copy protected in some way.

  7. If the DVD is protected then how could VLC media player play the mpg file?

VLC plays copy protected DVD's. Note, it plays copy protected DVD's. I do it all the time. I just did it again, a minute ago: The Bourne Identity. If that ain't copy-protected, nothing is. Then I loaded Titanic. Played. I played it in PowerDVD, too. Loaded Enemy Of The State. Played.

Then I copied one of the VOB's from the last one, VTS_01_2.VOB. WOuldn't play properly in anything. Period. MediaPlayer just stared at me with a black screen (Muckrosoft? No surprise). Tried to load it into an MPEG editor. No way. Black screen. Showed up in PowerDVD only every 100 frames or so, still-motion. VLC player: heavy pixelation, many disturbances, jerky motion.

Changed the name of the file from vob to mpg. Same problems.

Did you say where you got this DVD, its title? Retail? home made?

It's copy protected. Depending on the algorithms used, the behavior will differ.

Kill two birds with one stone! Use DVDShrink to decrypt (hopefully it doesn't have the more recent protection) and in preferences untick "split vob files into 1GB etc etc" this will produce a single unprotected vob file. Just change the suffix from vob to mpg and it should work. Otherwise run the big vob file through MPEGStreamclip and convert to mpeg ps. This will strip out of the vob file all the other data.
