    someone has already played with it. there isn't much detail or color info left. all those painted white lines and blurred area don't help.

  3. Try this to begin:
    Ylevels(23,0.899,195,0,255)#
    coloryuv(gain_u=0, gain_v=13,cont_u=0,cont_v=0,gamma_u=0,gamma_v=0)#

    Then you'll have to use filters such as rgb equalizer (vdub) / colormill for a good color rework imo

  4. I started with this:

    ColorYUV(cont_y=500, off_y=55, off_u=-4, off_v=12)
    ColorYUV(cont_u=200, cont_v=200)

    Then added a fix for the left edge with a mask:

    grad=ImageSource("grad.png").ConvertToYUY2(matrix= "PC.601")
    edge=ColorYUV(off_u=25, off_v=25)
    Overlay(edge, last, 0, 0, grad)

    Good going, jagabo. I'm still looking for mask ideas. Where'd you get the gradient?

    I looked at the chroma scope graphs and made a rough guess. Notice how the chroma drops at the left:

    I think you need one at the top too. But the nature of the picture at the top makes it hard to tell what should be going on with the colors. A wider range of material would help. If you have an mostly gray shot (except for the color problems) it would make it much easier to build masks.

  8. Thanks guys i see you ve been busy i was out so i will try the suggestions.

    someone has already played with it. there isn't much detail or color info left. all those painted white lines and blurred area don't help.
    Yes the video has been run by me trough pirej vhs droput script because the botom of the picture was constant noise ( not head switching noise but 4x bigger the tape had some physical damage at the bottom like brake line (like some one with knife run trough it ) and was pretty sticky i guess it is falling apart so now it looks acceptable.

    Jagabo that seems pretty good sample i should try the mask thing on video ( i only know how to use it for pictures )
    thanks master i will try now the script

    here is the before and after dropout fix ( i tried head cleaning tape cleaning but as i sad it has some visible tape damage i don't have any idea how to capture it better )

    the contrast and brightness look washed out because other wise in capturing will be burned i played with histogram and it is better fixable in post as i see from you guys

  12. You're using a different portion of the video than the sample you provided. Yes, the whites are crushed but mostly just the timestamp -- I didn't care about that. You're right though, the roof of the car is crushed too, even in the short clip -- I missed that. Personally, I'd rather see more detail in the rest of the picture than worry about the roof of the car blowing out.

    The crushed blacks are mostly oversharpening halos and the black borders. I don't worry about those because they're not really part of the picture (on the other hand, if you're going to run a dehalo filter you'll want to avoid crushing them).

    In any case, you should use your own judgement based on a larger sample. My intentions was just to give you a starting point. If you use less contrast you'll probably want to crank up the gamma. And you'll have to adjust the color options and masking.

    some good ideas, themaster1. Actually, both scripts seem to have their points. If I knew After Effects better than I do so far, it might do wonders after running your scripts. (It'll take me thru next week to get past all the script's text, though ). Thanks for posting both.
