The best performing real-time software mpeg encoder seems to be the Ligos encoder. I have tried others like the Nanocosmos and PowerVCR, but Ligos seems to perform the best. The only stand-alone capture application software I know of that use the Ligos encoder is the Ulead Videostudio. Are there any other capture applications that use the Ligos encoder that will work with a regular WinTV capture card?

Vegas Video 3 uses Ligos gomotion for MPG1 and MPG2 for their generic MPG encoder, VV3 also has the Main Concept MPG encoder. I don't see much difference between them though.
Capture in Vegas is mainly for DV but I have captured using my old WinTV card in the Vegas 2 capture app. Or you could capture using another app. and use Vegas to edit and render.
