? about Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable

I was doing some troubleshooting with a tech support guy and he had me remove all versions of this C++ Redistributable thing. I have 2005 and 2008 versions installed. I just went to the Microsoft website and see that they're up to version 2010. So my question is, should I install the latest, or the ones that I had previously? I don't know if this is a case where the latest one includes the previous ones, or I need the ones that I had again.

Microsoft's runtimes usually haven't included support for previous versions, so you'll likely have to install the specific versions whatever program you're using requires. This has included Visual Basic, .Net (though supposedly, one of the more recent versions of .Net actually was backward-compatible, to some extent), and the Visual C runtimes, as far as I've seen.

Some programs actually do link to the specific DLLs, too, I believe, so those would definitely require the relevant runtimes.

Thank you for the info. I took a chance prior to your reply and installed the 2010 version. So far the program I was worried about is functioning correctly. If I run into problems, I'll go back to the 2005 and 2008 versions. So far so good though..

The VC 2005 and 2008 runtimes do have their respective "Service Pack updates"
Possibly you were still using the outdated builds ???

Anyway, as it was stated above, the VC 2010 runtimes are NOT a replacement for the other ones, so you'd better have all of them
