Hi
What is the best AVI codec for video file before feeding it to TMPEG Encoder for making VCD/PAL good quality as VHS or better without any blocks or choppy?
Thanks

depends on your source and what you aim to do. If it's a DVD and you want to watch it on the comp, go with DivX3. if it's a livefeed/TVfeed/VHSfeed/DVD that you want to make into a VCD/SVCD then use HuffYUV or an MJPEG CoDec, i personally prefer HuffYUV. There is no "best" for all across the board, it all depends on your goal. HuffYUV is a lossless Capture CoDec, it reduces the size of an Uncompressed RGB AVI capture considerably, w/o losing quality, yet it's size is still huge. DivX can look good, given a good bitrate (2000+ IMHO) and it's a small filesize, but loses quality when converted into other formats as it is highly compressed. hope that helps some.
