    Hello
I have canon hf200 camera. Everytime i turn it on to record it comes up with the message "error writing on the memory card.Data may be recovered if the memory card has not been removed.Attempt recovering the data?" with a yes/no option.
When i hit yes it recovers all the data but i recently hit no and lost some recordings.

Is it the card i purchased which is a sony sdhc4 16gb? or is there a problem with the camcorder?

    Any feedback greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Duncan.

What "Class" level? Minimum is usually 6.

    What brand is it?

I always use SanDisk cards, and have never had any problems with them. I only use them with my DSLR atm, which doesn't need a high write speed, but the write speed might not be the source of your problem. Could just be a faulty card.

I think it could be a faulty card too.

Time to buy a new flash card and compare. These days a class 6 or 10 card costs little more than than a 4. As flash cards age they do slow down for transfer so better to use class 6 or 10 for longer useful life.

If the camcorder is rejecting the card before recording, I agree the card is most likely faulty. Perhaps a reformat will restore the card.

Not just any new card, but a quality new card

EDIT: originally missed the card manufacturer in you're first post (thanks Mike). Don't know about the quality of Sony cards. It's worth trying another brand, and maybe getting a class 6.

Just a word of warning.... Don't buy anything above a Class 6 card as they won't work with the hf200. Do a Google on this subject to find out why ... I think it's got something to do with the firmware.
