Hi Guys i am new here and i am hoping someone can help out with this . I have an AVI file which is about 173MB and 32minutes play time . I came across these tutorials online http://maketecheasier.com/how-to-compress-...ldub/2009/05/31 and http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/compress-vide...eos-send-email/ in this tutorials a video of 716MB was compressed to 12.5MB and so i tried compressing my 173MB AVI file using the guidelines on the link above however my video compressed to 68MB still very heavy compared to the compression of a 716MB file into 12.5MB . I would appreciate if someone could help me out here . I used the full compression option , xvid codec mpeg4 , my target bitrate was 300 and the video doesn't have any sound or audio its just a plain video so i am suprised it could only compress to 68MB .

  2. Your links don't work. But it's likely the video that was compressed from 716 MB to 12.5 MB was only lightly compressed to start with. You're probably starting with a much more compressed video. You can't endlessly compress video and retain quality. And even if you're starting with a similarly compressed video -- some are more compressible than others. Post a MediaInfo or GSpot report of your video. Or a sample.

  4. Your video has a much larger frame size, 1024x768 and is going to require more bitrate than a video with a small frame size. You either have to reduce the frame size or live with a larger file.

  6. In VirtualDub: Video -> Filters... -> Add -> Resize -> OK. Set the size you want. Try 512x384 (half, both dimensions)? If your source video is very sharp use Precice Bilinear as the filter mode. If it's not very sharp try Precise Bicubic or Lanczos3.

I tried compressing this with virtualdub but an error message saying "cannot start video compression , an unknown error occured" . Here is the gspot report .

  8. It's probably a resolution thing. The vertical resolution and horizontal resolution both need to be multiples of 16, or else XviD will not work. For example, a 256x256 file will work fine, but a 256x255 will not.

For the 276 video you mentioned, I recommend 704x480. Try it and see.

  9. Xvid doesn't allow odd frame sizes. It requires at least multiples of 2. Some decoders may have problems with less than multiples of 4. It's most efficient at multiples of 16.
