Interesting.
Thanks for the info.
Is the ps3 going to get an update to meet avchd 2.0?
What are the practical applications? My main material for avchd are my recordings from my hauppauge hd pvr. I don't think this will change anything as far as that is concerned.
I don't often downconvert blurays to avchd. I usually go stratight to dvd or to a mkv file.
Are there any benefits with the new specs in terms of bluray conversions?Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Where is the detailed spec?

PS3 might through a firmware update, because it has a very powerful chip, but existing blu-ray players might have problems.
1080p60 is L4.2 and most chips choke on decoding. I don't know for sure, but I am guessing there will be new players and chips with an "AVCHD 2.0" badge . (Yay for planned obsolecence)
I don't know if blu-ray has an update as well (I would have expected it to)

THough after the psn hack job in the spring maybe they weren't paying enough to the gaming side after all........Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Further info. Sony Vegas Pro 10e (June) upgrade added support for AVCHD 1920x1080 50p/60p.
Next we need to see if Sony's version of AVCHD 60p (NXCAM) works with the Panasonic HDC-TM900.
AVCHD is still more proprietary marketing driven rather than an independent standards body.
From Sony Pro 10e release notes.
