Hi ,
Is it possible to modify or simply change wmvs encoded with wmv8 to wmv9 without re-encoding?
I am looking for a tool like AviFourCC comes with Xvid setup that can change video header or structure. Does somebody have an other idea and can advice tools- programs?
Thanks

SFAIK, that's not possible, OR, at least, would not be "functional". WMV-9 is very different from the versions 7 and 8, and not backward-compatible --- so, a WMV9 decoder will not decode WMV-7 nor WMV-8.Is it possible to modify or simply change wmvs encoded with wmv8 to wmv9 without re-encoding?

By the way, why would you want/need to do that ?

As you are aware HDTVs can play wmvs from their usb port. On computer , for sure , there is no playback problem , all wmv version 7-9 can be played. Wmvs that are not encoded with wmv9 can not be playyed on HDTV.

I am looking for a simple solution for converting-changing between formats for wms that are not encoded with version 9 or solve compatibility issues with some wmvs encoded with version 9.

As wmv is a speacial format , audio&video can not be merged in different containers and simple tricks that i use for avi , mkv or mp4s does not work(Maybe AVS scripts and simple -almost loseless re-encoding can help???)

I would suggest that only a small number of models can play WMV files. It is not a widely supported format.

And as it is a lossy compression format, the only way to get close to lossless would be to use huge bitrates and get large files.Read my blog here.

WMV is an exotic format for the most part. As guns1inger points out it's not widely supported. There aren't a lot of tools to deal with it. There's nothing to stop you from re-encoding to better supported formats. If your source is anime, trust me, you're not going to destroy it by re-encoding. In fact you probably wouldn't even notice a difference.
