how to convert dvd with dts audio to a dvd playable on a dvd player

Can I convert a dvd with only dts audio (no ac3) to dvd or any other format that can be played on a dvd player?

Your DVD should already be able to be played in a DVD player. It doesn't? Since DVDs with DTS audio are supposed to have other audio along with it, I take it you downloaded this from somewhere?

You'll have to demux the DTS audio and convert it to AC3 with some program like eac3to. Then you'll have to re-author the DVD. Yes, this can be done.

DVDs with only DTS audio violate DVD standards, so we know that this is not a commercial disc. It is possible to create such discs, but they do violate DVD standards. DVD standards state that DTS audio cannot be the only audio track on a DVD and if DTS s present, there must also be either LPCM or AC3 audio as well.

manono: of course it was downloaded. "normal" DVDs come with dts+ac3. dts alone cannot be played on my dvd since I don't have dts supporting amp.
jman98: it sounds like a hard work. is it best to re-author with tmpgenc authoring works?

Actually this guide has what is probably the "best" way to do this.

Just replace the DTS audio with the new AC3 audio and ignore the parts about adding new subtitles. But the workflow is the same as in the guide.

If you don't want to do it that way and are familiar with Tmpgenc Authoring Works I suppose you could use that. But you'll have to create new menus whereas the guide I linked to allow you to keep all the existing menus.
