I created a DVD (I thought) using Encore on my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard)...I have all the files in VIDEO_TS. I also have a ISO file. I am so frustrated burning DVDs that don't play in any standalone DVD player. WHAT IS THE SIMPLEST way to do this? I am so lost!

    Thanks, --bill

  2. We could probably use more information such as:
Media brand used, DVD burning application, will the DVDs play in some stand alone machines and not others, do the DVDs play in computers, etc.

Assuming they are authored correctly I would check the brand of disks you are burning to. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are pretty much the media of choice here.

I can tell you from experience that poor media (even if it is branded TDK or Maxell, etc) creates nothing but headaches in the long run.

I am using Taiyo Yuden disks...I used Apple's Burn utility...I have tried burning discs with VIDEO_TS directory on them...with JUST the files from my VIDEO_TS folder...the ISO file...Tried playing the results on two different dvd players...failed in both.

Are you burning the actual root directory or the VIDEO_TS file?

You need Mac specific help. This needs to be moved to the Mac forum or you will probably never get helped. It's not your fault for not knowing, but anything that is Mac specific, and this is Mac specific, needs to go in the Mac forum for the best chance of help. And weekends are a very bad time to post as many forum regulars don't read the forums then. I'll "report" the original post and ask for it to be moved.

    It could be:
    1) Disc not closed when you burn.
    2) Burning a data disc and not a DVD.
    3) Creation error in your work process.
    4) Your screen capture seems to suggest that this is a fairly small DVD. A few older DVD players won't play DVDs if the total size of the disc as burned is about 1 GB.

The disc needs to be UDF. Your screenshot shows a DISC named VIDEO_TS. Actually there needs to be a folder NAMED VIDEO_TS inside the disc. The disc may be almost any name ("MYDISC" is fine). But the format of the disc MUST be UDF. Apple's Disc Utility does not burn UDF. Try an app named "Burn". You may find it here:
    http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
    It's free.

Please post how this works for you.

  8. use LiquidCD (donationware), tab "DVD VIDEO"
    and select your VIDEO_TS folder

it will burn your DVD-VIDEO in the same way than iDVD or DVD Studio Pro (and not in the same way than Disk Utility )
    = udf 1.02 + iso track
Do not forget to burn at the slowest speed allowed by your DVD burner

PS: if the disk does not work yet, the concern occurs with your medi (DVD-R) or the Encore authoring
    bye
