  1. I have a MKV file that plays with sound on my PC but when i convert it to DVD the sound doesnt play on DVD player,
I have tried TWICE and its done it each time, I press the language button on the DVD remote and it tells me the audio is DTS 6ch
but no sound comes out of TV...I would have thought anything in DTS would still play the left right channels...?

is there a way i can change the audio to 2ch before encoding to DVD?

    Thanks guys,,,,

  2. yes it does, i have another file on the DVD that has 2ch AC sound and that plays..as soon as it trys to play the other file theres no sound...

I encoded 2 MKV files onto 1 DVD structure, one is 2ch AC sound and the other is DTS 6ch, the 2ch plays sound and the other doesnt

The files on the hard drive play sound as does the dvd itself through the laptop...now the laptop doesnt have 6 speakers?? it does have Realtek HD soundchip so may be converting it to 2ch...i dunno

    thanks

    Many DVD-standalones do not have a built-in DTS-decoder ---
at most they can simply output the DTS-signal to an external
DTS-capable digital amplifier. What is the make and model of your DVD-player?

    P.S.:
is there a way i can change the audio to 2ch before encoding to DVD?
Yes, you can uncompress the DTS-audio, downmix to stereo, and recompress into
AC3 or MP2. Not a simple task, evidently.

Like Midzuki say. Most players will output only digital signal for DTS and it is up to an amplifier to decode. To be able to play DTS you have to hook up your DVD player through optical or HDMI output. Also your amp has to be able to decode that. Check the manual for it.

  5. my DVD player is just a cheapo BUSH DivX player and doesnt have DTS
the only outputs it has is
    SCART
    S-VIDEO
VIDEO + 2ch Audio(what im currently using with my HDTV as picture is marginally better than scart)
    Coaxial

nothing for DTS or other Audio output and whats more i dont have an amp or soundsystem that i put it through... the dvd-player is hooked upto the TV Audio out-in

  6. A fairly simple way to do this would be to use avidemux

    1) Open your mkv in avidemux

    2) For the Video sidebar, select 'copy'

    3) For the Audio sidebar, select 'AC3 (Aften)', now select your bitrate and in filters choose 'stereo' for mixer - you can also adust the gain etc...

    4) Select mkv for format

    5) Press save (but you have to type the full filename with extension e.g. "myfile.mkv")

This just stream copies your video, remixes your audio, and places it into a mkv container.

Now proceed with making your DVD as you did before

    Cheers

  7. thanks PoisonDeathRay - your a star...
    what bitrate do you recommend?

    thanks again

  8. oh...its says:
    H264 detected

If the file is using bframe as reference, it can lead to crash or stutteting.
Avidemux can use another mode which is safed but YOU WILL LOOSE FRAME ACCURACY.
Do you want to use that mode ?

I clicked OK and it says:
No audio decoder found for this file

Save (A+V) will generate bad AVI. Save audio will work

The sound isnt playing back in Avimux.. and when i try to save it (which i know wont work anyway if it cant decode the DTS it just creates a 1Kb file)

    what do you recommend?

  9. Match it to what your DVD authoring program is using (it might re-encode the audio if the bitrate is different - it doesn't really matter)

Otherwise 192 is fairly common for stereo

I cant understand cos i have AC3 codec installed which plays DTS...
    I have
    DivX
    XviD
    FFDShow
    K-Lite Codec mega-pack
    AC3 Filter
    AVIsynth
    Quicktime
    RealPlayer

    Is there anything im missing?

  11. use mediainfo to find out what audio/video your mkv is

  12. By the way, what program are you using to make DVD from mkv?

    1) Use MKVExtractGUI to separate audio & video streams

    2) Re-Encode your DTS Audio to 2-channel AC3 using Belight/Besweet or some other audio encoder

    3) Re-mux your streams with MKVmergeGUI

Im using VSO ConvertXtoDVD but i do have CCE+AVI2ISO

    also I cant find MKVmergeGUI

also when i launch MKVextract it says: MKVextract or MKVmerge not found in the folder please try again?
Ive only got the folder i extracted from the download... this is turning out to be problem after problem

    why cant i use AVIdemux?

  15. ive managed to get MKVtoolnix and copy the exe's from that install into the folder, now have the tools, will let you know how i get on...thanks again

  16. I suspect avidemux isn't working because of DTS (It works with AC3). Avidemux is like VLC in that it uses its internal codecs

ConvertXtoDVD resamples all audio to 192kbps AC3 if I'm not mistaken; I wonder why it has a problem with the DTS? You probably could encode the audio to anything, because ConvertXtoDVD re-encodes it anyway

  17. well im trying all these programs and getting nowhere, my desktop is cluttered with folders with these programs in hehe

Belight wouldnt work without Besweet so i got that, put all besweet files in belight folder and conversion creates a 4Kb file...
so i used BeSweet GUI with wizard and when i click GO it just opens notepad and saving it / closing it doesnt make the job start>????

    what a nightmare...

yes well ive tried VSO convertXtoDVD twice with the same file and it doesnt change the audio to ac3, it has kept it the same
It seems to have an AUDIO options on AUTOMATIC but its greyed out even with file loaded
    Quote Quote
  18. .......also
It doesnt matter WHAT format i choose MP3/AAC in BeLight it just creates empty files of that type ?

why is this? and why does BeSweet just keep opening the log notepad when trying to start a job?

  19. I'm not sure why? It could be that you didn't download the aac.enc or aac.exe and place them in the besweet folder.

Another option would be foobar2000 just right click and use "convert"...use something easy like mp3

  27. You might not have LAME installed...either convert it to something else recognizable by convertx, or install LAME
    Quote Quote
  28. i managed to install LAME again but it still asked, so i located it to the lame.exe i run from the download to install it and its working now...38mins to convert it
