Bit of an odd request, here - can anyone reccommend a quick, simple procedure for creating an .avi file that doesn't need to be anything more than five seconds of blank space, to be used as a placeholder between other .avi files?? I tried to make one using a gif-to-avi converter, and it seemed to work, but then the resultant file wouldn't play on the DVD player. Then I tried to make one using vdownloader, but it was so big I ran out of space on the CD.

Advice - or just a download location for such a file, if it already exists - would be greatly appreciated.

You can't have an empty avi. It would have to be 5 seconds of black video with zero volume audio. You can do this in virtualdub by starting with a black jpg file

Black and silent is what I was looking for, guns1inger - and Case, thank you very much for providing it!

I originally tried to use virtualdub by capturing a black frame from an existing video and copying that frame until I had something long enough, but I must have messed up somehow because the file size was disproportionally large.

Thanks again for both of your help

If you don't set a compression codec (and configure it correctly) then virtualdub produces uncompressed video which is, as you discovered, quite big.
