Hi, I've imported some WMV (AVI) video files into Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0, and when i put the files on the sequence there is no audio playback. There is also no display on the waveform. However in the preview box for the files imported in the project the audio plays perfectly. The files have 16 bit mono 32000 Hz audio, with the the video running at 15 fps.
I don't why this isn't working so if you can help I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

Not sure why , if the preview works, then it should work when placed on the sequence

For a temporary workaround, you could save it as wave and import the audio separately e.g. you could use virtualdub

Thanks for your response poisondeathray, I tried VirtualDub but it didn't work, I got the file type wrong on the files I was speaking of. They are Windows Media Audio/Video files, not AVI. VirtualDub is calling them ASF files. Could this be the problem with Premiere?

	MediaInfo gave the following:

I converted the audio of one video to MP3 using Adobe Audition and that worked fine, but you can't batch process videos and I have quite a lot of files. I haven't found a filter for VDub yet, does this convert both the audio and the video?HTML Code:General Format : Windows Media File size : 271 KiB Duration : 8s 281ms Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 268 Kbps Maximum Overall bit rate : 1 767 Kbps Video ID : 2 Format : WMV2 Codec ID : WMV2 Codec ID/Info : Windows Media Video 8 Description of the codec : Windows Media Video V8 Duration : 8s 267ms Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 354 Kbps Width : 640 pixels Height : 360 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate : 15.000 fps Bit depth : 8 bits Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.102 Stream size : 357 KiB Language : English (GB) Audio ID : 1 Format : WMA Format version : Version 2 Codec ID : 161 Codec ID/Info : Windows Media Audio Description of the codec : Windows Media Audio 9.2 - 20 kbps, 32 kHz, mono (A/V) 1-pass CBR Duration : 8s 281ms Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 411.2 Kbps Channel(s) : 1 channel Sampling rate : 32.0 KHz Bit depth : 16 bits Stream size : 1.39 MiB

well if you have a lot of them to do, I'm not sure if vdub is the best solution . Vdub can convert audio & video, but if the video isn't a problem, there is no reason to do that (lose quality if you use some lossy format) . The problem is you'd be doing it one at a time. While you can batch convert with vdub, it's pretty a "clunky" way to do it

mp3 probably isn't a good idea either, unless you don't care about the quality loss

you probably want to do a batch conversion . You could probably do it with ffmpeg with a .bat file , or use a gui for it like winff

you also might consider upgrading, because newer versions of premiere do not have issues with wmv such as the one you have there
