When editing VOB in avidemux, the sound is often out of sync with the video. Would someone help me either fix that or find another free or inexpensive editor?
Thank you.

What kind of editing? e.g. Simple cuts, or complex fades and transitions?

What is your desired format goal? (e.g. DVD, flash video etc...)

If you are taking just one VOB from a full DVD rip then you need to knowOriginally Posted by Lambert
that the audio from that DVD rip is "tied" to the next and/or previous VOB.
Sometimes this fact is painfully more obvious that other times. I have
not run across this problem is quite a while.
It's not the fault of AviDemux.
If I were you I would copy the VOB....then run that VOB through FixVTS
to attempt to repair the audio problem.....or run the entire DVD rip through FixVTS.
The audio sync tool in AviDemux is also simple and straight-forward.

Also if the audio "goes" out of sync gradually....just press stop then start again.
Most editors are pretty lousy "players".

I'm pretty sure it uses the HC encoder nowadays for its re-encoding around the frame-accurate cut-site. It's a great piece of software. And its "quicksteam-fix" tool works wonders on problematic mpeg files.Originally Posted by poisondeathray

Also don't forget the Womble MPEG Video Wizard DVD is on sale for ~US$35 until tomorrow!!! (One-year license).

Thank you for your suggestions, everyone., everyone.

I am doing simple cuts, by the way.

 I'll try your suggestions.

I found that AviDemux has a problem with 29.97 (NTSC) frame rate, it gets worse with 2:3 pull down, specially when you import VOB file.
I use TMPGEnc Xpress to process file first and than to AviDemux, looks like it is OK after.

I often encountered this issue too. I record DVB shows but I always have to author the clips into DVD, in the same time I cut commercials. After that, I send the VOBs to Avidemux and convert them to divx/xvid.
When I open directly the files I recorded, there's always this out-of-sync problem. As hech54 said :

DVB files look like this : audio packets are here not tied to video packets. These files always must be corrected. You can demux the Audio with DGMPGDec DGIndex and use the demuxed audio with Avidemux. But I regret that Avidemux does not recognize MPEG Audio files (.mpa, .mp2) others than .mp3The audio sync tool in AviDemux is also simple and straight-forward.

your video isn't very standard ( a 50fps mpeg2 file ) , and has non standard dimensions, and very low bitrate

 what is the source?

have you tried another avidemux build? perhaps a newer svn build?
 http://avidemux.razorbyte.com.au/

perhaps if you upload a sample to the avidemux forum, the could have a look at it and "fix" any possible incompatibilities

OK. The source is my DVB-T program. My videos are all TV movies or documentaries.
