  1. i use avidemux to convert a mkv file to avi
    this mkv file is playing nicely in media player classic

    when i convert it into avi using avidemux
    the audio is out of sync

    any solution ?
    any other good video converter which i can try ?

    Why do you want to convert? You just lose quality if you re-encode. Is this for device compatibility?

    If your mkv is vfr (variable frame rate) , it will be difficult to keep in sync because avi container doesn't support vfr

    If this is the case, you can search for solutions to vfr, as this topic has been addressed many times. The most common method is using avisynth and a DirectShowSource("movie.mkv", fps=23.976, convertfps=true) script, which doesn't always work.

    Load the avi in AViDemux and use the Shift(ms) tool, play/preview and line it up, save new.avi? Make sure you use 'Copy' profile for both video and audio, so it will/should not re-encode...
    You could also try AVI-Mux GUI...
