  1. I just purchased a Canon HF200 camcorder. I have had no problem getting the files onto my computer. But, from there I have had so many problems. I've tried editing them in Sony Vegas Studio Platinum trial version and Corel Video Studio Pro X3 trial version. I've also used Proshow Producer, a slideshow program that I love for my photography hobby. Each program freezes up or crashes when I am working with the files. Vegas has problems when I try to render, and Corel has had problems at a lot of different points, previewing and rendering. I've even had my computer crash a couple of times when just viewing the original files in Windows Media Player.

I'm assuming that this means that I have to convert the files into another form before editing. I've tried a few different trial and free video converters, but I really don't know what I'm doing and the quality of the conversions hasn't been nearly as good as the original files. I'm not sure what format to convert to and what settings to use.

Right now I will be burning the edited shows to DVD, although at some point I would like to get a BluRay burner. So shouldn't I be converting the files to the best possible quality so I can reburn my shows to BluRay at some later time?

So, what I am asking, is where would you go next if you were me. I've spent every spare minute for a week working on this and the more I do, the more confused I become.

My computer is a one year old i7 PC with 920@2.67 ghz, with 9gb ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series video card. I am downloading a trial copy of Adobe Premier Essentials right now to try.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I will be most grateful if someone could help me get started on the right path.

Your computer should be fast enough, but try Neoscene to convert your MTS files into easy to edit AVIs.

I don't know if this helps, but I use Vegas Pro v.9 and it works great with .mts files from my HF200.
You can see the results on my Youtube page if you want.

I would think any recent version of Vegas would work with .mts files.

Audio is working now...... I had to install the AC3 filter. Now I will try converting a few files to see if my software will work without freezing up when I use them.

Thanks. Your show is really neat!! For me, Vegas Studio would freeze up whenever I tried to render the mts. files. What type of computer are you using?

    Thanks,
    Terri

  10. The Neoscene converted files worked great!! After all the time I've spent on this, the money spent on Neoscene is well worth it.
