Hi guys!
I recently bought a new computer with nvidia 9400gt and samsung syncmaster 2033 monitor. My graphics card, though having only DVI port, says it is capable of producing HDMI output through an DVI-HDMI adapter (I checked it's specs on the internet and the manual) and my monitor also has a "DVI IN" slot.
My question is will i be able to get HDMI picture quality by using DVI cable with DVI HDMI adapter? If so,what exactly should i buy? Should i buy a DVI cable with two HDMI adapters, one for the monitor and one for the graphics card (I'm currently using VGA cable) or is it impossible to do it?
Or is there any other way to get HDMI on my PC?
Please Help and thanks in advance.

use just the HDMI from your graphics card. -
Thanks for the swift reply.
So, i just have to get an DVI-HDMI adapter and a dvi cable with one end to the monitor and the other to the hdmi adapter which i should plug in to the dvi port of the graphics card. Am i right? -
Why do you want to use an HDMI cable when both your computer and monitor have DVI? The quality is exactly the same.

Yeah i heard
But after i bought the cable and the adapter,i first tried to directly connect dvi to dvi and saw a slightly better picture. Then, i plugged in the hdmi adapter to the hdmi port of my graphics card and plugged the dvi cable to it and was able to see more sharper images, texts and videos. I don't know if others would agree but i did find significant difference.
But i have one more question. After i plugged in the hdmi adapter i saw a message on my nvidia control panel that my graphics card and display are HDCP capable. What is that? is it some kind of HD data security thing (wikipedia says so) and my monitor shows it is connected via DVI eventhough i am getting HDMI Quality. Is this because my monitor only has a DVI port and hence it does not recognise the change? -
Your fine with the display of HDCP capable. everything else is fine too.

Your Samsung 2033 has a 16:9 1600 x 900 native resolution. It is a computer monitor, not an HDTV. As such it has poor scaling. It also lacks an HDMI port.

The DVI-D to DVI-D connection needs to be set to 1600 x 900 for the best computer text and video resolution. This gives an optimal display resolution for that monitor. Since HD video source is normally 1920x1080i or 1280x720p, your playback software and/or display card need to process the video for optimal display at 900p.
1080i needs to be inverse telecined for film source or deinterlaced for live source to 1920x1080p/59.94, then scaled in the display card to 1600x900.
1280x720p/59.94 source needs to be upscaled to 1600x900.
HDMI is electronically similar to DVI-D but often has different resolution expectations. Normal resolutions for HDMI are 1920x1080i or 1280x720p. If you output those resolutions to your monitor, 1080i will be rejected and 1280x720p will be upscaled in the monitor. This upscale will be poor compared with display card scaling.
If you set your display card's HDMI output to 1600x900, the result should be identical to using DVI-D.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

Ok now i get it.
My monitor display is 1600x900 by default so i guess it's better to keep it that way
Thanks for all the info
cheers!
