I'm buying a sound regulator (TERK VR1) that sits between my DISH box (VIP722k) and HDTV to get rid of the loud commercial bursts. Problem is, it only accepts RCA cables in/out for audio signals. I'd hate to lose my HDMI video quality to the TV- and wondering if anyone knows how to disable the HDMI audio so I can use this.

Otherwise, I've got to go all RCA (RYG/audio).....will the video quality really drop that much?

Your video quality won't drop because you'd still use HDMI for that. As long as you don't have a 5.1 or greater speaker set, you won't notice a huge difference. The real issue you're going to have is that the Terk device doesn't reduce commercial volume enough to solve the annoying problem from which we all suffer.

I have a Samson dynamic range compressor between my PC and speakers to regulate the volume difference between Youtube videos. It works pretty well, but there's still 20% of the time where I have to ride the volume control on my speakers because some video was encoded so loudly.

Wait. I'm going from my sat-box to HDTV with HDMI. (If) I use RCA for audio into the TERK then to the TV - will that disable the audio going through the HDMI cable for video. The reviews posted on the TERK are all good - for the price it looks like it's at least worth it to try and dampen the commercials.

(If) I have to go RCA for both video/audio - in your opinion will I see that much difference in video quality vs HDMI?

Depends on your TV. If it allows you to use an alternate audio source while using HDMI, should probably work.

I got around the problem by outputting coaxial audio from my sources directly to my surround sound amp. My HDMI display (Projector) doesn't have audio, so no problem there. I would check your TV manual.
