  1. I convert my files using Win AVI software to DVD format. I can watch these disks on my computer - no problems. When I try to pla them in a standalone DVD player they cannot be read. What do I need to do next to be able to watch these DVD's?

Personally, the first thing I would do is ditch WinAVI. However if you are happy with the output . . . .

If the discs play on the computer then the problem either lies with how you burn them, or the media you are using.

I would suggest you only ever burn DVD Video with Imgburn, and only to quality media.

What software are you currently using, and to what media ?

some standalone players can't read DVD Data but only DVD Video

You should burn, with nero or other, as DVD Video

My pioneer player deals pretty well with DVD Data, others don't

I don't mean to be harsh, but I wouldn't even contemplate using Nero to burn. As S1inger said, use IMGBurn. It's fee and it works.

You might want to do a little research on your conversion tool too. I've never used WinAVI and that's probably because I've not read much good about it. There are several other free tools listed in the "TOOLS" section that will do an admirable job.

Better tools make for better conversions.

So, once you got the tools to do your work lined up, go buy some good media - Verbatim - and try it again.
