Hi there, not sure if this is the right forum or not but I have what I think should bea simple question. I am trying to author some AVCHD discs to play in blu-ray players from some downloaded x.264 mkv files. I am having some trouble and I think my problem stems from the fact that the videos are in non-standard resolutions. What I want to be able to do is convert the video to something like true 720p or 1080p so the playback is will function properly in my blu-ray players. Is there any easy way to change the size of the video?

What do you have now ? (MediaInfo can tell you a lot about your files)
How are you authoring them ?

Whatever you do, you will have to re-encode if you resize. Xvdi4PSP is a simple to use tool for resizing and re-encoding, but let's make sure that resolution is the problem first.

I have a 1920x1080 AVCHD video that works perfectly on every blu ray player I have tried. What I am trying to do, is convert several videos I have download that have the .mkv file extension and use x.264, into a blu-ray compatible AVCHD disc. Problem is, whenever I convert the videos and burn them, they will only play in player ( BDP-1500) and when they do, the formatting is all messed. The image is squeezed in from the sides so that the image is in only about the middle third of the TV. So I assumed it was because of the non-standard resolutions the videos are in. By non-standard I mean 1280x536 or 1920x800, and many others than that.

  4. Yes, that's at least 1 reason for your problems (there might be more)

You have to add borders in the avs script

    e.g. if you had 1920x800,

    addborders(0,140,0,140)

In order to make it compliant, as in 1920x1080,use the 2nd # for your calculation..
    e.g 1920x800
1080-800=280 , 280/2=140 borders needed to top and bottom to make it compliant...

He already told you that: AddBorders(0,140,0,140). For slightly better quality you want the borders to be integer multiples of 8. So AddBorders(0,136,0,144) will work even better.
