    High speed != High quality.

For best quality learn how to use megui. If your source isn't HD you can use some filters with avisynth to upsize it. But it wont be any real HD.

Easiest is to use all-in-one converters like xvid4psp, freemake video converter, format factory. They can convert to avi divx/xvid in HD resolutions.

480x360 to 1080p is going to look like crap no matter what you. why bother ?

  5. Just remux the audio and video into an AVI container. Try AviDemux. That will be fast and easy. The resulting AVI will be about the same size as the source file and there will be no change in quality.

Even if you reencode it's not true that "High speed != High quality". What usually is true is that you can't have high speed, high quality, and a small file size.

And yes, you can't create true HD from SD (or worse). Enlarging the frame from 480x360 to 1920x1080 before encoding usually isn't going to look any better than your TV or media player does already.

I just tried freemake video converter and it converted it fine to 1080p. Did you click on edit preset(blue config button) and changed the Frame size to 1920x1080?

    BUT it wont look good...

It works fine here even without the stretch option. I just choose "to mp4" and change to 1920x1080 and I get a 1920x1080 video file from a 528x320 file.

But you can also use avidemux(add filter->resize) or xmedia recode or most other good encoders can resize for you.

No you don't. Your 480x360 video upscaled and keeping the same aspect ratio becomes 1440x1080 or 960x720. It's still a stupid idea though.

Just let your media player or TV do it. You are NOT going to create HD video from a low resolution source. You're just going to create a big frame with fuzzy video.

  14. You're not going to change this:
    Name: 160x120.png
Views: 455
Size: 53.8 KB

into this (the same change in scale you are contemplating):

Name:	480x368.png
Views:	373
Size:	415.0 KB
ID:	8044

you're going to get something like this instead:

Name:	upscaled.png
Views:	349
Size:	438.9 KB
ID:	8045

It's a waste of time. You're media player or TV can do just as well.

you can do anything you want with them, as long as you understand that you can only make it look worse than the original.

an easy way would be to use xmediarecode and choose the youtube 1920x1080 preset.

640x480 should be resized to 1440x1080 and black borders added to fill out a 1920x1080 frame (if necessary). But again, you will not be making HD video, just fuzzy video in an HD frame.
