  1. my brother just bought a pawn shop (no manual )dv camcorder (jvc gr-dvm70), we want to capture from the cam but it only came w/a firewire output cable(doh! again)
So I guess I'm gonna need some sorta firewire capture card.
I have a radeon vivo (composite)

I guess I'm asking for buying advice since im a total n00b at dv capture and have only composite video input.

Would an ATI DV~WONDER do what i need? or should I shoot for a higher end card (I have no idea what makes one different from the other) ?

Or is there an AGP video card w/firewire inputs? (under $200)

    any advice?

  2. you should be able to get a firewire card that fits in your computers pci slot "not agp" for less than $100.00, some even come bundled with video editing software. your favorite computer store can help you out.

  3. Go to www.pricewatch.com and you should find some for a pretty low price. Around 40-60 dollars. Have fun with the DV capture. I hear it's one of the BEST ways to capture.

The key thing on any Firewire card is that it is OHCI compatible. I bought the generic store brand from CompUSA for $50 and it works perfectly. Your operating system should already have a driver, so you just install and go.

Note, that you cannot "capture" unless the DV camcorder has analog input. I'm not familiar with the GVC so I would check out their website.

  6. i bought a COMPUSA brand Firewire card. it comes with cabel and basic visualstudio software. i bought it for 29.99 about two months ago. you just need a free PCI slot in your computer.
