I know it is a 2.80GHZ/1M/533 CPU, Northwood or Prescot not known. I have experience with the Northwood CPU and it has been extremely reliable. I am considering buying the P4 2.8g, however I think it may be a Prescot CPU .... are they as reliable as the Northwood ???

  2. Prescotts have an 800 MHz FSP and run much hotter than Northwoods. 533 MHz FSB is a Northwood. I'm pretty sure the 2.8 GHz Northwood doesn't have hyperthreading. And it doesn't have SSE3 which was introduced with Prescott.

The CPU I am considering is the PENTIUM 4 2.80GHZ/1M/533 SL7E2, I am trying to establish whether it is a Northwood or a Prescott. I have searched Intel and many more sites, have found the spec's but unable to establish Northwood or Prescott.

Also, if it does turn out to be a Prescott, are there any known issues I have to think about.

I have just established it is a Prescott CPU, 478 pin but a smaller chip than the Northwood. Is this a problem for a M/B that has a Northwood 478 pin installed.

  5. The motherboard must also support the higher power requirements of the Prescott and you'll need a bigger CPU cooler to keep it cool.

Thanks to those who made comments, I have decided to stick to the Northwood.

  7. In my case the fastest I could go was 2.6 Northwood.
You might be able to find one out there, but they're hard to find
