  1. Hello. I would buy a DVD player that have these features:

    - read multisessions (very important for me)
    - read UDF 2.01 DVDs
    - play vorbis videos
    - play ogg sounds
    - support matroska container

How can I see which players have these features? In your site these features are not listed.

  2. Very few players support any of those features. You will want to look at devices like the Popcorn Hour, and the HD capable players from TVIX, Ziova, Zensonic, etc.

Except the PCH et al don't play DVD's at all, so you'd need a combination of a DVD player plus media player

I think DVD player must have an hard disk if I want to give it a media player, right? For what I saw, dvd players with HD are much expensive......

Popcorn Hour is impressive. But even if I'll buy it on eBay, I think I can't pay it less than 200$. I'll think about it.

Why is it not listed with other DVD Players?

  5. The Popcorn Hour isn't really a DVD player -- it doesn't have a built in DVD drive. You can hook up an external DVD drive though.

  6. Mmmhh.... I'm starting to think the more convenient DVD player is a notebook. It costs 10 times as expensive, but you can do thousand and one things with it.

  7. Several years ago I set up and old computer next to the TV to use as a PVR and file server for the rest of the computers in the house. Since it was on all the time it started getting used for checking email, web browsing, and eventually, video editing and conversions. As time went by it was upgraded several times and now is the most powerful and most used computer in the house.

    You seek the impossible.

Multisession support - NEVER heard of any standalone player that supported this.
Vorbis video - Again, NOBODY supports this.
Ogg support - almost impossible to find.
Matroishka support - Only heard of a few streaming media players that half-way support it. Only AC3 seems to work for audio in the container.
UDF 2.01 support - Don't know of any that suport this, although theoretically that should not be too hard to do.

Those features are not listed because THEY DO NOT EXIST.

If you're looking for multisession-disc support only,
you should take a look at the newer models from LG.
Mine is 4-years old, and does support multisession CDs and DVDs
(even though the f***ing manual doesn't say a word about that).
