  1. I burned a few movies to VCD and SVCD in Nero 5.0 to some pretty cheap media, and when I play them in my Pioneer DV-343 the movie skips sometimes and has a small flicker on the screen. The skips occur mostly at the beginning, but it is still irritating. Could this be a problem with the media, or something else? Also, on some CDs I can view the elapsed time, etc. and use the Search to go to a specific time, but on others I can do neither. thx in advance

I have Pioneer 343 also, I burn with Nero--MPEG-2---my VCDs skip in audio and video, but
after first min. or so. They are ok at the start!
What MPEG format are you using? 1 or 2 ?

  3. what bitrate are you using? i have the 343 and have no problems with MPEG-2 SVCDs made from either TMPG encodes at 2300 video bitrate or from realtime ATI captures at 2300-2400.

  4. i meant to mention that i was using sefy's templates, so the maximum bitrate is 1150 with quality @ 70, audio is 128

maintv : i burned VCDs and SVCDs, so i am using MPEG1 and MPEG2

I use Nero 5.5.2.4 version, new TDK 24X CD burner, burn to CD-Rs at 24X.
    Different format---I use 720 X 480 to get full screen on TV with Pioneer 343, 480 X 480 only
gave me 1/2 pix! Use Sefy's template with 720 mod. Changed everything in set-up in Pioneer
343, nothing helps! Skips in audio and video after about 1 min.
    I use NTSC format.
New, very fast 1.4 g AMD computer. 512 m mem.

  6. 3 more hints:
-it might not like real low bitrates like in sefy's template.
-burn at 8x, the media might be the problem
-fix the SDE tags. find the link i posted to 'fix12c.exe' or read the fix i wrote on how to fix it in your templates. the correct SDE headers for NTSC 480x480 SVCD is 480x480 not 720x480. the size for SVCD should also be 480x480. it will be full screen if the SDE tags match the video size.

Thanks for info--where can I find these "fixes" and what are SDEs?
    For templates for SVCDs.
