Audio skips

Hi,
I filmed using a Sony PD170 in DVCam mode and on playing back, the audio consistently skips (mutes) every other second while the pic strobes a little simultaneously.
Please Advise

Thanks hech54, well I've tried playing back the tapes in many other cameras and players but the sound still skips in the same places.
While playing back the camera constantly switches between DVCam and DV and yet the footage was recorded in DVCam.
