Hello Group, I received a Viewsonic LCD monitor - model vg2230wm and it has an optimum screen resolution of
1680 by 1050. Can anyone recommend a graphics card for this monitor as my 12 year old Matrox cards are
    too old for this monitor.

    Thanks to all that reply.

Depends on the motherboard - AGP vs PCI-e . If you're not doing any gaming, anything above an Nvidia 6200 will work. I like video cards that don't need fans -

The DVI input is cleaner and nicer looking. Did your monitor come with a DVI cable?

Pretty much any video card currently on the market will likely work without any issues. Typcially all that is required is the latest drivers to provide support for WS monitors. In your case, you are likely using an old PCI card with like 8MB of RAM. You will likely have issues finding any PCI cards which use chipsets (and drivers) new enough to support WS resolutions.

Before any card might be suggested, you need to know more about what the motherboard was designed to support , and if agp is available

There are AGP cards with older 2x and 4x support still available

5200 and 5500 (better) both nvidia
    9200 from ati

Pci is still available should it be the only option
