I have a Dell OptiPlex GX270 that had another monitor connected to it. But I recently decided to connect a Sony SDM-HS73 monitor to it.

However, I don't like the fact that this new monitor only has a refresh rate of 60 Hz (when connected to the Dell). I have other monitors that can refresh at 85 Hz (not when connected to this Dell, though), and even the previous monitor refreshed at 75 Hz, I think.
60 Hz is quite annoying for the eyes.

Do I need a new graphics driver, to be able to get a better refresh rate? If so, can anybody tell me where to download it, please?

    Thank you.

That depends on the person and what they are doing. I use 60 Hz all the time at work and home and it's fine for me. However, I am not a video gamer so I cannot comment on whether a refresh rate of 60 Hz might be insufficient for some games.

If you need a special driver you'll have to see if Sony has one. You should also check the Dell website to see if they have an updated video driver for your PC. Either Sony or Dell could possibly have a driver that could give you a higher refresh rate.

  3. You don't need higher refresh rates on LCD monitors. They don't flicker like CRTs. Sony may have an INF file that will let you set a higher refresh rate though.

that is an old, not very good lcd display with poor contrast and brightness from around 2002. there are inf files that would allow up to 75hz refresh rate but the newest is for winXP.

    search sony support if interested.

It worked. Thank you very much, Jagabo.

I was able to get a 72-Hz refresh rate. (Noticeably better than 60 Hz.)
