Though you have a new cable, that's commonly caused by a bad cable or cable connection. Another possibility is your ATI driver. You might try other, older versions. Lastly, it could be a codec problem. Which one are you using?

Codec? Not totally sure. Can you recommend me one to download? It's also black and white on pinnacle studio so it's definitely not vdub.

If you didn't select a codec with VD, it defaults to (Uncompressed RGB), which will give you huge filesizes. You could try HuffyUV. Still large files sizes, but manageable if you have lots of HDD space.

You might take a look at lordsmurf's site for info about AIW captures: http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/capture/atiavi/atiavi.htm

Wow. the problem seemed easier than I thought. the cable had a switch on the back that had component or rca. It was on component the whole time resulting in the black and white color. fixed it now. thanks regardless redwudz. appreciate it!

now I have a different problem. No sound.

my setup looks just like that. its weird.

OK, halfway there. So you have plugged the audio output into your audio (Line) input of your audio card? Probably with a RCA stereo to 1/8" stereo phone adapter cable? Then go to your audio card settings. Make sure your 'Line in' is turned on and up.

Or, if your AIW card has audio line in, you still have to turn it on most times in the audio settings. Some cards also may require a cable between the video card and the audio card. Good time to read the AIW manual.

Huh? A switch on a cable? I didn't want to revisit AIW drivers but never heard of a switch.
