    Hello folks,

I have started to use FAVC, with HCenc in order to turn AVI files to DVD files. The image is great; however, the sound is missing for some king of strange reason. Can anyone help me figure out what problem I have?

First, confirm that it is missing.

Open the VOBs in G-spot and see what is says, then try playing them in VLC

I will, however not now, as I don't have the files in front of me.
I tried to play the movie in winDVD, powerDVD and Nero's DVD program without success.

I added three AVI files again in order to transfer them to DVD files. I checked the files in powerDVD, winDVD and VLC-player without success, the sound is gone. I checked the file in Gspot, but I couldn’t see any errors, see attach image.

The sound is included if I add the files into convertxtodvd.

This is very odd. What type of audio do the avi files have and do you have the correct directshow decoder installed for the audio?

I have no idea if I have the correct directshow decoder is installed. I downloaded the latest FAVC and use its accessories, of which HCenc is one.

The audio of the AVI files are 2.0 AC3

The strangest thing is that the movie work perfectly when using convertxtodvd, except that the movie is somewhat jagged, but I think it is from converting from NTSC to PAL.

Exactly, I don’t know why I ticked off that I wanted NTSC to PAL converting, as my equipment can play NTSC.

But why is there no sound when transferring 3 AVI files to DVD in FAVC, when it is sound while doing the same thing in convertxtodvd?

In the audio options tab of FAVC make sure that "retain if present" is selected for AC3 Audio. Try an encode again.

'Retain if present' is selected in the audio option.

Make sure you have the AC3 ACM Decompressor installed. Having this installed might fix things and surely will not hurt things even if this turns out not to be the issue.

I'd also make sure that you have the AC3 Filter installed as well.

This is beyond my knowledge. Do I install these programs and run FAVC as usual, or do I have to convert the audio files with you recommended programs?

Please, could you tell me a reason why the sound works after I’ve converted the files in convertxtodvd, because it’s beyond my knowledge?

As far as I know convertxtodvd uses some sort of ffmpeg process in the background (that may not be true - but I think I read it somewhere) whereas FAVC uses codecs on your computer (directshow for audio processing).

Under VSO folder there is a DLL named avcodec.dll

The proprieties/description of that file says :

"Collection of audio and video encoders/decoders, based on FFMPEG library"

    AVCODEC.DLL is what VSO uses

I don't think ConvertX does any processing of compliant ac3 audio.
    Output Stream#1 - Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5 channels, 448 kb/s (Copy)
