I'm trying to use Graphedit to convert from dvr-ms television recordings (Media Centre, Vista Home Premium, 32 bit)
The series of filters includes Ogg Vorbis & the Elecard Mpeg2 converter.
This produces a watchable avi or mpeg, but the aspect ratio is wrong. My computer tv records in widescreen but the graphedit conversions are not. Also - possibly related to that - the right edge of converted videos is invaded by dark pixel blocks.
Any advice on how to get the right aspect ratio in conversions?

If you convert to avi you have to resize to a 16:9 resolution(Setting avi to 16:9 is ignored in most players). And don't reconvert to mpg as dvr-ms is already in mpg, use videoredo or dvrmstoolbox to convert to a standard mpg. You can then also convert the mpg to avi using autogk, no need for graphedit.

    Thanks Baldrick

Haven't yet tried the software you recommend, though I have had trouble installing DVRMST toolbox on my Vista system, it seems to require an earlier version of .NET.

Although this isn't directly on topic for this group, some people may be interested in this:

Having produced a pig's ear of an mpg from a graphedit filtered dvr-ms file (7.3 Gb for a half hour programme) I am unable to delete it. I've defragged the file, defragged the partition, run chkdsk. At first I was stuck on "calculating time remaining" which went on forever, then I applied an internet tip (disable Remote Differential Compression) which at least stopped the preposterous calculation box. However, after 20 minutes of trying, I still can't delete the effing thing. The file plays, though with a lot of blocking - I just can't delete it.

    Best wishes
