    Hi,

I need to put a uv filter on my camcorder, it is a jvc gy-dv500u. However, i have checked the internet and all i am getting is that the camcorder uses a 1/2" bayonet system. Honestly, I have no idea what that means. So what I did next was to convert 0.5 inches to millimeters to see if I can find a filter that size. As a result, I can not find any.

I did found one but one a ebay page and the guy said that he uses 77mm for his Nikon which is 12 - 24 mm. It is not making much sense to me so can someone clarify things for me. I really need this UV filter

The 1/2" bayonet is apparently the lens mounting system. The most common filter size I saw on a quick search was 82mm threaded. But it probably depends on the lens you are using. I would go to a filter company like Hoya or Tiffen and they should be able to help you. http://www.hoyafilter.com/ or http://www.tiffen.com/

Lots other filter manufacturers out there, those were just two that came to mind.

Well ,excuse me, but you have a "broadcast" quality cam..
Do you not have the instruction manual??? It should mention lens diameters for filters...
    Or was it "lost"????????

The filter diameter depends on which Fuijinon lens you have. The 500U was available with either the S14 x 7.3B12U or S19 x 6.5B12U but others (Fujinon or Canon) may be mounted.

    Google got me this.

Check the front of your lens and the lens shade to confirm 62mm filter screw dimension. I found this spec sheet on an e-bay listing but one other listing mentioned 58mm filters.

You can confirm spec with Fujinon or the filter supplier or ask online experts like these guys
