I am trying to capture from a Hi8 camcorder and VCR with this Easycap USB device: http://www.szforwardvideo.com/support/Supp_2_2.html
I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and this Easycap device was listed as supporting Vista but upon further research it seems it just might not support Vista 64bit. Though I am able to capture video fine with it, after days of trying different drivers and many other methods I have never been able to capture audio with it. I am able to capture video and audio on an XP Machine, however on that XP machine the video capturing is jerky and not smooth and normal looking. The XP machine has less than 1GB RAM so I thought that might be why but I've seen people talk about getting good captures with Pentium III systems, though they may have been using better capture devices than I am. It doesn't seem my XP machine has a USB 2.0 port so I think that's why the video captured is laggy. I posted in more detail about my capturing attempts here: https://forum.videohelp.com/topic331168.html but its an old thread and I got no response so I thought I might ask for help more directly. I find a lot of old guides about video capturing, but it seems they may be relevant only to old versions of windows, and I would like to use my far more powerful Vista machine to do my capturing, so I would like an inexpensive USB capturing device recommendation and software that is Vista 64 compliant.

  2. Unfortunately, audio in Vista is a completely different beast than earlier versions of Windows. XP drivers for audio simply don't work.

There's a list here that might be useful:

I have to say, though, that I am very wary of Pinnacle stuff because it can interfere with DV software but that won'y be an issue for you.
