  1. I have done this for some time successfuly. Then, TmpgEnc started to present me with a clock at opening the .avi files and does not react anymore: I have to use ctrl-alt-del to stop the program. I have used proxyoff and then (after restart) proxyon, as suggested in this forum, and nothing; I have reinstalled again completely Windows Me (after format c:  ) and the problem persists. I have installed one pluggin for TmpgEnc that allows recognition of .avs and .vdr files and nothing. I was so happy with the encoding of my home videos and now completely frustated with this. Tryed Pinnacle studio 7, Ulead Video Studio 6 and Winproducer 2 trials and concluded that TmpgEnc is much superior in the quality of mpg-2 output for SVCDīs (even if it is slow). So I need TmpgEnc and frameserving, its impossible to create intermediate Aviīs with virtualDub (30 m of video need 6 Gb, intermediate Avi would have close to 18 GB).

    Suggestions please!

  2. I have been using VirtualDub and Frameserving with TMPGEnc for some time, I was told on this forum to use a "Fake" avi file extinsion and it works, when I start Frameserving and it ask for a name I put in "VCD.AVI" (or whatever your wan t to name the file) and save, leave the VirtualDub open, open TMPGEnc, use the browse and find the "VCD.AVI fake file, TMPGEnc will open the complete file and I start encoding........using the normal VCD templated on a two hour move takes me about 5 hours to complete, I have a 1.7 GZ system.

  3. Ok, thatīs the way I did it from the beggining. But now TmpgEnc does not open the file. In another post someone told that this is a frequent problem, and could be solved by setting off the proxy, restarting windows and setting on the proxy again. It does not work for me!

    Suggestions?

  4. The TMPGEnc lockup happens everytime for me unless I set the video to Direct Stream Copy in VirtualDub.

  5. I have the exact same problem, but here's how I fix it.

I frameserve from VirtualDub, saving it as file.vdr.avi, and load the file into TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc always crashes, so I wait for the hourglass to spin 5 times (so it'll say Not Responding when I press Ctrl-Alt-Delete). Then I use Ctrl Alt Delete to close TMPGEnc, and immediately reopen it. For some reason, the second time it will take my file.vdr.avi file. I save it to a project and batch encode all my projects.

What is Direct Stream Copy in VirtualDub? Does it affect the final output for VCD (if so, for the better or worse)? It'd be worth setting that if it means TMPGEnc not always crashing... though I've gotten used to having to deal with it.

  6. direct stream copy means virtual dub doesnt uncompress the video or audio.. it just copies the data over... so say if your source is a huffyuv(avi) and you want to encode a divx(avi) .. if you set direct stream copy in video you will just end up making another huffyuv(avi) it ignores any filters or compression settings

only thing is the frame server bipasses that setting as far as i know.. it serves uncompressed video and audio

  7. Well, I am not alone in the Universe! This seems to be a common problem, with several possible imaginative solutions. I am going to try tonight your tips and then I will report the results. Thanks for now.

  8. Well, here I am again. Tryed direct stream copy - no result. Also tryed shut down TmpgEnc and start again - no result also.

    More suggestions?

  9. Here's the key for restarting TMPGEnc:

When you press Ctrl Alt Delete to close the program, you have to make sure that it says TMPGEnc is Not Responding. Or else when you restart it, it won't work. That's why I wait 5 hour glass rotations before hitting Ctrl Alt Delete.

  10. One thing that hasn't been said is what version of VDub, Tmpg and OS. I'm on VDub 1.4.8, Tmpg 2.02 and Win98 FE.

  11. Tryed again and it doesnīt work, Mike. Its hard to understand why I have used this successfuly and then bang - even with a full system reinstall I couldnīt open frameserver files anymore. It must exist an explanation (and a solution, I hope).

I am using VirtualDub 1.4.7 (also tested with 1.4.8), TmpgEnc 2.02.31.119 (also tryed 2.50.32.120), and Windows ME.

I am a litte more happy because I realize now that I can do with TmpgEnc what I was doing with VirtualDub - resizing. This way I can avoid a very big intermediate Avi, which was the reason why I needed frameserving. Do you have experience with filters in TmpgEnc? Is it usefull to activate soften, ghost and sharp edges together with resizing?
