I use a PC with an Intel video adaptor (945) and DVI out to drive a LCD TV DVI in.
I use powerstrip to select the right output mode because the EDID info from the TV lists less modes as it actually can show.
Everything works fine untill I switch the TV to standby and back on again.
The PC looses the monitor (ding dong) and when it comes back again (dong ding) the output is set to 640x480 on 16 colors.
Is there a way to tell the computer not to do anything intelligent?
    The computer runs XP

Likely a sync issue. Usually when using a TV attached to a computer, the TV must be on before the computer. When the computer boots, it then syncs (selecting and installing monitor drivers) with the TV. In your case, the pc is already running, the sync process isn't taking place (at least not properly) and XP is defaulting to the lowest video settings possible because it doesn't know what type of monitor is attached.

Is there any way to tell XP what "lowest" video setting to use?
