    k-lite = trouble

However in this case it looks like a (very) badly deinterlaced video. I would say this was done at the encoding stage, so it is pretty much foobar'd.

no it wasnt encoded this way.....

it is happening with most of my video's

it isnt doing this in windows xp, so it must be a vista problem ?

if k-lite is not a good decoder, what would be the best recommendation ?

K-lite is not a decoder, it is a pack of many different decoders. However you have little control over how they are installed or configured, and cannot guarantee how they will react with your system.

It is also not a Vista problem. I have no problems watching videos on the machine I have Vista on.

Start by uninstalling k-lite, if you can, then install either VLC or the KMPlayer and try watching your videos.

    Ah i c.....

well the VLC player has helped a bit.... but still noticable... its kind of smoothed it out better.

is there any settings i could put into the 'prefences' of the VLC player for optimal playback? or is the default settings the best bet.

  6. Start up two instances of VLC. Play the same video in both instances. Do they look different?

De-interlace feature of VLC always gives me better picture

  9. I cannot see the sample image probably because my work is filtering it somehow. But in any case, you can try installing ffdshow and configure the deinterlacer there. That should help it play as you want no matter which player you use.
