    Hello All,

I just picked up a second Philips DVP 5960/37 and it doesn't read any sort of inserted discs. I've tried commercially produced DVDs, home made DVD-Rs, DivX, CD-Rs and factory made CD audio discs. The machine will not read any of them. When you insert a disc, it makes a brief mechanical sound but not the typical spinning or whirring sound. Then, after a few moments it reads No Disc on the display. I've set the setup screens the same as on my other DVP5960 that does play discs, but no luck. It does however, play DivX files when connected to a hard drive via USB the way my other DVP5960 does. Could it just have a bad drive? I haven't called Philips yet. It is after hours right now. Any suggestions before I call them? Thanks.

    Mike

I would take it back to the store and get another one, Sounds like that one is toast... You could always try using one of the DVD laser cleaners on it...Good Luck
