I am having a problem and maybe someone can help me. When I try to play xvid avi's in Windows Media Player and also the bsplayer, they are green and it is impossible to view the file. When I burn them as a Video DVD thru Nero, the same thing happens. Here is the clincher tho. My XBOX is connected to my home network, and the videos play perfectly fine on that. I checked Gspot and everything is installed. Any ideas?
This is really frustrating.
Thanks!

Only Xvids? Then it may be a codec issue. Try playing one in VLC Media Player. It uses it's own codecs. If it works, then reinstall your Xvid codec. If not, maybe a Active X problem.

They play beautifully in the VLC Player, but I reinstalled the xvid codec and I still get the same problem in windows media player. This would be the end of my problem, but it is still doing the green stuff and not playing correctly when I burn it as a Nero Video DVD
We're getting there!!! -
You should also make sure you're using the latest version of the XVid codec, too. Download the latest version and install it, see if that helps.

I've seen this before - and having just reinstalled my operating system, I'm experiencing it again. I am pretty certain that I recall this being one of two things (but I'm struggling to remember which);
1) Are you using an ATI card? If so, there is a parameter you may need to disable that relates to video playback. I can't yet remember what this parameter is (because I can't find it), but I do recall that it wasn't something universal, such as slowing down the overall hardware acceleration - it definately related only to video playback. It may be that I'll need to reinstall the Catalyst Control Centre in order to find this option ...
2) There is a specific codec that is reported to be absent in many installations - I think it was either an WMV or WM9 codec (related to Windows Media player, perhaps). I actually use Media Player Classic in most circumstances, as opposed to the Microsoft offering, for the record. I tried downloading a codec from microsoft a few days ago, but it had no effect - so I'll try to dig up the one I may have used before, as I almost certainly would have saved it to disc.
Apologies for being so vague - but I thought that this might help point you in the right direction. I'll try to report back if/when I resolve my issue once again.

P.S. When I first saw this, I was using an ATI 9700 Pro card. I fixed the issue, then later used an ATI X1600 Pro card - but the problem only reared it's head once I reinstalled the operating system - so both cards are undoubtedly capable of running just fine. -
Also have this - with some encoders.
Solution? To frameserve to the encoder with AviSynth.

Okay - found it. There's an old Windows Media 7 related codec that's required - I've just installed it, and it worked just fine.
You can download it from my server >here!<
I grabbed this some time ago - possibly from the Microsoft site - but I have no doubt that there's nothing you need worry about regarding the file. The file's about 1.35mb, so it should be a painless download, and it hasn't conflicted with any other codecs or codec packs, so far (I'm currently using the K-Lite offering).
Hope this works for you!
