If it is a commercial disc, check the back of the case and it will tell you the region and the format. If it is a burned disc it is less likely to have a region set, and so more likely to be a format issue.

  4. Get a good dvd player, region free, pal to ntsc conversion, and get those only released in uk via amazon, very efficient, also

    http://www.sanity.com.au/DEFAULT.ASP?SHOWHMVPOPUP=Y

have some stuff not sold in any other country.

I have dozens of dvd's bought that way, use a philips dvd 727 or 642 player hacked to region free, or get an oppo which most rave about.

    Why oh why do conversions.

Open the VOBs in g-spot and look at the resolution and framerate. The different messages all seem to be saying the same thing - you have discs that do not match the format of your playback equipment.

you could rip them on your PC and convert them, then there wouldn't be any problems

rip them and watch them on the PC, if they are something you want to keep, convert them and burn them

Have you determined if the problem is region code or television format ?

Open the VOBs in g-spot and post a screenshot of the output.

You can also buy a Cyberhome 300 clone at WalMart for $25-30 and make it region-free in 2 minutes in addition to ability to watch PAL DVDs on NTSC TV. That's what I did.

Instead of hijacking other people's threads, you could try searching our DVD Hacks database (to your left). The answer you seek is in there.
