  1. I want to backup my Simpson season 3 to 4.7 DVD disc. I'm using a Pioneer A05 burner and DVD decrypter and IC. Everything seems to work fine and no errors appear until I play it on my Apex DVD player.

It plays the opening menu and when you try to play all episodes or any episode the Apex comes up with the following error. “This disc is not formatted to play in this region. I have backup almost all of my DVD’s in the past using this method and I have never had a problem before with region setting. My burner is set for region 1.

The craziest thing is that I copied disc 3 first without any problems and it play all the episodes on my Apex. But, when I went to burn disc 1 and 2, I did nothing different and I get the region error for those disc.

Please can anyone enlighten me on this error or tell me what I need to do to fix this.

  2. The burner won't make any odds - unless you have specified an incorrect region in your burning software if it has one (most don't).

More likely is your ripper has missed one of the region coding references - I found this with a Region 1 version of The Transporter that I wanted to play in my non-chipped, region 2 second player. Smartripper had pulled the coding out of the first IFO file, but there was also a reference in IFO 3 as well that was missed.

Run all the IFO files through say IFOedit and make them all region / region free and burn again.

Thanks for the post. unfortunately it still did not work for me.
I also was trying to backup Simpsons Season Three.
I loaded each IFO file in IFOEdit one at a time, clicked on Regon Free button, saved each file. Still could not play it. I get the same “This disc is not formatted to play in this region" message.

Did I do something wrong or in the wrong order?

    @paulgold
Seeing that I am trying to backup the same discs (Simpsons Season Three) were you able to back them up successfully? If you did, what was your method?
As you can see from above, I have already tried IFOEdit with no luck.

when you used the IFO edit program you must SAVE the changes..
Then IFO will write over the .bup file as well..If you didn't get a message indicating ifoedit would write over the ".BUP as well" then your changes weren't actually done..
    ALSO
If you did everything right...try DVD DECRYTOR to region free..
after ripping..re-submit the ifo file to the TOOLS section of DECRYPTOR
somewhere. theres aguide for REGION-FREE with the decryptor but its under the TOOLS MENU in the program

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately the movie is still unplayable. Tried playing in both IFOEdit and WinDVD

I loaded each IFO file, clicked Region Free, clicked Save -(yes, I did get the message asking if I wanted to save the ".BUP as well" -- I chose Yes for each file) None of the files with the exception of VIDEO_TS.IFO showed that RCE Checking was active.
Result: Still Would not play correctly.

I next tried DVDDecrypter>Tools>IFO>Region Patch>Region Free Selected the VIDEO_TS.IFO File and Got the Messege "Successfully Patched" Note: I did not re-rip the dvd, I used the VIDEO_TS folder from before.
Result: Still will not play Correctly.

Any other things I should try?

I once had a message like that
"this disc is not formatted to play in this region" and like you all the tools you outlined failed

So I went back into IFO edit just as I had for the region-free (opening each IFO in succession and re-saving the results), only this time I hit the button GET VTS SECTORS...
Don't know what happened ...but it fixed the problem with regios...somehow, the region-freeing in ifoedit had messed these up?

  7. OK, tried the GET VTS SECTORS button, now I get the message
    ( Error! "GetNumberOfChapters Failed")
I have lost the menu now as well. Nothing shows up, its all black screen.

    What Else can I try?

    Thanks for your time!

AnyDVD looks like it is a prog for the player/burner when you initially insert the disc. I currently have the file on my hard drive and no lomger have the disc. So right now this will not work for me. If everything else fails I might need to re-rip the disc(s) in that case your suggestion might work. Thanks for the tip!

    @dcsos
Yeah, with any real luck we can get a reply from the two who initially started this thread!
Thanks for all your time though!

FULL credit for this goes to 2Cool

"You will be able to decrypt and rip The Simpsons 3rd Season Region 1 with upcoming DVD Decrypter 3.1.7.0. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.p...8589#post368589 "

I had my bad copies of the discs and decided to try the fix here

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=365490#post365490

I re-ripped back to my hard drive and tried the fix(es), they worked well for me. !

O.k You may think I have no knowlege of the computer because I am only 12 Years old but I got my movies to work. And therefore I will help you fellow (Gamers,Movie,w.e....ect.) Allright so first you open IFO Edit and remove region code.... Hit save and it will ask you to overright the IFO you hit YES then it will ask you to overright the BUP you hit no and you're done if you changed the regestry in REGEDIT and there you have it.....

I am using RIP it 4 me (Dvd Decrypter Dvd Shrink Fix VTS) Worked for me except for I did a movie.

    BITC* you got owned :P
