  1. I want to be able to access my folders in my Virtualbox guest os (in an image file similar to Virtual PC) via samba (SMB) by sharing my windows folders. I have done this, however I'm concerned about my file security. I can access the files fine without a password on my virtual machine - but can anyone else also access them or is it just limited to my local network?

    Thanks

If you are sharing a network with other people in the house using a router. Anyone can access your shared files who are on the same network as you.

If you're worried about security, allowing them to change (=DELETE) files thru the share is probably not a good thing. If YOU want to be able to change them, but no-one else you need to switch from SIMPLE FILESHARE mode to USER MODE sharing (permissions set on each user name/password).

Windows Explorer - Tools - Folder Options - View - Simple Sharing (at bottom)

    Trev

  4. Thanks for the info. It sounds like I'm safe as long as I have my McAffee firewall enabled. I have also taken your suggsestion Trev and not allowed users to modify the files - I only need to be able to read them anyway
