DVD Architect is used for authoring - this is where the VOB, IFO and BUP files you see on any DVD are created, along with designing the menus etc.

See if there's a way where you can ouput your project to DVD compliant MPEG files. These will be either elementary streams (audio.wav or audio.ac3 or audio.mp2 - depending on which audio format you go for, and video.m2v) or a system stream (footage.mpg - containing both audio and video in one file).

From there, you can author using your chosen authoring application.

thanks for your reply. i'm still confused, i thought vegas platinm could be used to capture, edit and save to dvd format (mpeg2) so it can be burned to dvd to be played on dvd players. how can i go about doing this using vegas platinum?

if i use dvd architect studio, it allows me to create menues like the ones in commercial dvd movies and create scene selections right?

Movie Studio and Studio Platinum ship with a number of task oriented tutorials. I suggest you take some time to go through them. It is a good investment.

I'm using the trial version to see if its worth buying. i just looked at the manual and it doesn't say how i can save it to mpeg2 (dvd) format. all i see is how to save for vcd or cd which i don't want. i used to use windows media to capture and edit and avi converter to convert to dvd. thought this would be more straight farward.

    thanks

I haven't used Movie Studio, but I do use Vegas, it's big brother. In Vegas you output video via File -> Render As, and set up compression etc from there.

    I would start here : http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/step2.asp?did=684

and download the two quickstart guides. They are small .pdf files, and should cover the basics.

    IMHO, VMS Platinum is incredible.

I suggest you visite the Sony VMS Forum where lots of VMS users can give advice. Also, you'll probably find plenty of answers to many of your questions:
