  1. Am trying to backup a DVD using Smartripper and TMPGEnc.

The DVD contains 7 VOB files - all of which are the standard 1GB except for the last VOB file.

Smartripper can only rip approx. half of VOB file number 1 (about 580KB) which means that there are about 12 min. missing in the movie.

Any suggestions are more than welcome.

  2. 1. Are you ripping in "Movie Mode"?
    2. Did Smartripper give you any error messages?
    3. Have you actually tried converting yet?

There is a possibility that the first VOB file contained alternate titles (e.g., a trailer) / alternate angles / seamless branching that are not part of the main movie. If you rip in "Movie Mode" then Smartripper will not rip those parts that are not relevant to the main movie (so only half the vob will be ripped).

If this is the case, there is no problem at all. Continue converting as you normally would.

    Regards.

  3. It's possible that the DVD is scratched. I have had this happen to me before. Give the disc a good clean with alcohol and try ripping the chapters that you are missing, rather than the whole VOB file.

Incidently, I always rip chapters rather than VOB's, it also allows me to split the movie into two sections before I encode anything!

this problem for me has always turned out to be a dirty or scratched disk.

  5. Otomann,

i'm gonna hafta go with vitualis on this one. try encoding the movie and watching the rip. or...if you don't wanna go that far...just check out the vobs directly with windvd or powerdvd. skip to the ending of vob 1 and see if it continues onto the beginning of vob 2. if not, then there's a problem.
