  1. Hi everyone,

It's all pure speculation but I'm curious what people's thoughts are on the matter. I just purchased a Divx Ultra DVD player that also plays Xvid. With H264 being such a big deal I wonder if it means that down the road we won't see players that support Divx/Xvid anymore. Or, because they are all utilizing mpeg4 in one way or another (or at least that's my understanding of it) perhaps we are likely to see support for all three formats tied together. It seems impossible that h264 support won't become integrated... and possibly more so than Divx has been. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that H264's popularity will only help Divx support reach more players/customers in compatible DVD players.

It seems like Divx would be hard to knock out of the market having already been embraced by so many, offered on many DVD players, and now adding DVD menu support and other unique features currently unavailable for h264.

Just an interesting discussion piece. What are your thoughts?

  2. I SO hope H264 just dies on the vine. its a horrible format. absolutely nothing except the ipod (low res) and PC's are able to play the danged thing and I have NO interest in replacing allll my hardware. I prefer Divx/Xvid they are universal easy to work with and scalable with VERY comparable result to H264 in most cases with no penalty. h264 just takes SOO much horsepower to mess with
